Little Rock Port and Harbor Slackwater Harbor Development
Location: Little Rock, Arkansas
Garver has provided the following services for infrastructure improvements to the Slackwater Harbor area:
Railroad Track Extension: Natural drainage channels were consolidated into a common 10 to 25-foot-wide flat bottom ditch extending over one mile. This area was then used for a 3,400-linear-foot extension to the Little Rock Port Railroad. The railroad track was later extended an additional 3,450 feet and 4,960 feet, the aging timber crossing at Fourche Dam Pike was replaced with a concrete crossing, and concrete crossings at Lindsey Road and Frazier Pike were completed.
Harbor Dock: Garver designed a 100-foot by 200-foot dock consisting of a tied-back sheet pile wall 17 feet above the water surface. It has four pipe-pile dolphins and a barge-pulling system. The project included a concrete paved deck, water lines, and associated site and electrical work.
Bulk Products Pier: A 30-year-old wooden bulk products pier on the main channel of the Arkansas River was replaced with an all-steel version adjacent to the original. Hydraulic power enables the pier to rotate upward to handle changes in the river levels after storms. Pipelines for waste oil transfer from tanks to barge are built into the movable pier, and Portland Cement loading pipes are used to unload barges with pneumatic pumps.
Waterlines: Water service was extended with 1,365 feet of 12-inch and 2,225 feet of 8-inch ductile iron water mains and fire hydrants. A pump station and 11,300 feet of 2-inch to 8-inch force mains complete sanitary sewer service to the area.
Indiana Port Bulkhead Dock
Location: South Bend, Indiana
Garver designed a 270-foot bulkhead dock structure at the south end of the West Harbor Arm. This structure joins existing structures and furnishes a bulkhead across the entire face of the harbor arm. The new dock flanks a 250-foot structure previously designed by Garver.
Port Bienville Rail Facilities
Location: Hancock County, Mississippi
Garver designed four separate construction projects and provided construction inspection for 14,600 track-feet of new rail for nine separate rail spurs. These new spurs were designed with No. 8 turnouts and 85-pound rail. An additional 33,750 track-feet of existing 85-pound rail was replaced with 115-pound rail. This project included six turnouts and six street crossings. Garver also designed and provided construction observation for the expansion of a 16,000-square-foot railcar and truck wash facility. The railcar wash facility is now over 300 feet in length, doubling railcar washing production. Garver also modified the existing wash system.
Garver also assisted Hancock County with construction administration services on emergency rail facility repairs immediately following Hurricane Katrina. Garver provided design for construction plans and construction inspection for a coupled-in-motion rail scale on new spur that included an access road.
Florence-Lauderdale County Port Dock and Bridge Crane
Location: Florence, Alabama
Garver is providing design and construction administration for a multi-phase capital improvement program involving refurbishing and extending the Port's traveling bridge crane, structural repairs to the public docks/mooring facilities, storm drainage improvements, and general site work to enhance safety and the Port's marketability to potential users.
USS Razorback Submarine Mooring
Location: North Little Rock, Arkansas
Garver designed the mooring facility for the USS Razorback submarine, the USS Hoga, two museum barges, a 1930s tug boat, the Arkansas Queen (an Excursion Vessel), and a renovated barge.
The engineering services included US Army Corps of Engineers 404 permitting, site surveys, modifications of existing access walkway bridges, design of new ADA-compliant access walkway bridges with a pipe pile support structure, multiple concrete deadmen, standoff structures, and cable support structures.
In addition, Garver provided mechanical engineering services. Plumbing design included water supply and force main sanitary sewer with grinder pumps to all vessels.
