The Muscle Shoals Utilities Board is expanding and upgrading its wastewater treatment plant from 2 MGD to 4 MGD. The proposed improvements were planned in three phases. Phase I is complete and includes significant process upgrades, renovation of existing administrative facilities, and an increase in the plant's permitting capacity from 2 MGD to 4 MGD. Phase II includes an expansion and improvements to the plant's solids handling facilities. Phase III, if required, will include Biological Nutrient Removal and a relocation of the plant's effluent discharge location.
