Project
Garver provided services to upgrade the Fort Sill Wastewater Treatment Plant by adding a new 6.5-mgd ultraviolet (UV) disinfection process. The new design rehabilitated the existing chlorine contact chamber as a UV disinfection reactor. By retrofitting the existing structure, Fort Sill realized an immediate construction cost savings.

The new design implements the latest technological advances in UV disinfection. Variable UV light intensity was automated via flow pacing, bulb intensity level, and filtered water transmissivity. These three levels of automation will help reduce operational and maintenance costs through efficient electrical usage and increased bulb longevity. The primary motivators for Fort Sill's desire to switch from conventional chlorination/de-chlorination were to improve operator safety, eliminate the need for a Risk Management Plan, and reduce the occurrence of disinfection byproducts formation following chlorination of wastewater organics.
